IHSS Program Supporting Californians to Live Independently Celebrates Over 50 Years of Making a Difference

--

By Kim Johnson, Director of the California Department of Social Services

Since its inception more than 50 years ago, the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program has been enabling California residents to live independently and safely in their own homes.

The IHSS program is one of the longest standing state programs, with 670,000 providers serving over 730,000 recipients statewide. This significant milestone demonstrates the unwavering commitment and teamwork that has been the foundation of its success over the past five decades. This commitment continues today.

We are celebrating over 50 years of IHSS by sharing personal stories from some of the many voices that helped shape the success of the IHSS program.

I hope you will join me in celebrating this milestone, recognizing the momentous journey, growth and success in supporting some of California’s most vulnerable residents.

To learn more about the IHSS program, please visit our website or contact your local county IHSS Office.

I will close with a special note of thanks and gratitude to the providers, thank you for all you have done and continue to do. You help make our vision of a California for All, a reality.
